Sectoral Expertise
Health
A multi-disciplinary approach by Envisions Institute of Development (EID) has significantly contributed to the health sector through project implementation, design and development of comprehensive training modules, communication strategies, IEC materials, and capacity-building programmes.
These initiatives have engaged a wide range of stakeholders – including frontline workers, Panchayati Raj Institutions, faith-based organizations, self-help groups, and government departments – focusing on key areas such as Routine Immunization, Maternal and Child Health, Adolescence Anemia, HIV/AIDS, Tubercolosis, HPV vaccination, Chandipura virus, and COVID-19.
EID remains strongly committed to strengthening community systems and amplifying citizen voice by promoting participatory communication, enabling grassroots mobilization, and building capacities across diverse communities in India.
Education
Envisions has been strengthening capacities in the education sector by partnering with state and civil society stakeholders to integrate Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) approaches into education systems. Through targeted capacity-building initiatives, Envisions is equipping frontline workers, education functionaries, and community leaders to enhance school participation, improve attendance, and ensure quality learning outcomes for children.
A three-day workshop was conducted in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, bringing together partner NGO heads and RTE managers to build a shared understanding and strengthen collaborative efforts towards improving access to education. This was complemented by two structured training programmes for 40 RTE managers and RTE facilitators/cluster coordinators, aimed at equipping frontline workers (FLWs) with the skills to mobilize communities, monitor attendance, and support quality education delivery.
To ensure sustained impact, Envisions developed contextualized training modules and provided continuous handholding support for the training of FLWs, enabling effective on-ground implementation.
Additionally, capacity-building trainings were organized for school teachers in Odisha to strengthen child-centric pedagogy and improve classroom practices.
Building on these efforts, Envisions developed an SBC-focused training package and toolkit for the education sector, fostering a cadre of trained practitioners capable of driving community engagement and systemic improvements. These initiatives collectively contribute to creating an enabling environment where every child can access, attend, and thrive in quality education.
Livelihood and Self-Reliance
Envisions has been strengthening capacities in the livelihoods sector by promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance among vulnerable populations, particularly refugees. In collaboration with international organizations and implementing partners, these initiatives integrate skill-building, enterprise development, and Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) approaches to enable sustainable livelihood opportunities.
In partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and its implementing partner Access, Envisions facilitated entrepreneurship development programmes (EDPs) for refugee women as part of the livelihoods and self-reliance initiative. Targeted interventions were conducted for Afghan and Somalian refugee women, focusing on building entrepreneurial skills, strengthening group dynamics, and enhancing their capacity to initiate and manage income-generating activities.
Expanding these efforts, Envisions collaborated with Fair Trade Forum India under the UNHCR Livelihoods and Self-Reliance Project to organize a comprehensive five-day entrepreneurship development programme for refugee women and men from Myanmar. Delivered in three phases, the training aimed to equip participants with practical business skills, market understanding, and the confidence to pursue sustainable livelihoods.
Through these initiatives, Envisions has contributed to fostering economic inclusion and resilience among refugee communities, enabling them to move towards dignity, independence, and long-term self-reliance.
Nutrition
Envisions has been strengthening capacities in the nutrition sector by collaborating with government and development partners to integrate Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) approaches into programme implementation. These efforts aim to improve service delivery and promote positive nutrition behaviours among communities, particularly women and children. In Jharkhand, a state-level workshop on SBCC for nutrition was conducted in partnership with the state government, with support from UNICEF, to strengthen the capacities of ICDS functionaries. The initiative aligned with the state’s vision to enhance the effectiveness of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), engaging ICDS Supervisors and Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) to improve programme implementation and community outreach.
Expanding its efforts through corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnerships, Envisions implemented nutrition-focused interventions in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, and Meghalaya, supported by BPCL. These initiatives focused on building awareness, strengthening frontline engagement, and improving nutrition outcomes at the community level.
To support these interventions, Envisions developed contextualized SBCC modules and undertook research to inform programme design and implementation. These efforts have contributed to building a stronger evidence base and enhancing the capacity of stakeholders to drive sustainable improvements in nutrition outcomes.
Disaster
Envisions has been strengthening institutional capacities by partnering with the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), with technical support from UNICEF India, to integrate Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) into Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
Embedding SBC approaches across the entire disaster cycle—prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery—to enhance community resilience and system effectiveness.
Envisions developed an SBC–DRR training package and toolkit, and established a national cadre of master trainers through national and regional Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes. Building on this, the dissemination workshop aimed to further strengthen SBC capacities among humanitarian actors and development partners engaged in last-mile disaster response and community engagement across Delhi, Assam, Kerala, and Odisha.
WASH/Hygiene
Envisions has been strengthening capacities in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector by integrating Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) approaches into large-scale sanitation and hygiene programmes. Through strategic partnerships with government institutions, faith-based organizations, and development partners, these efforts focus on promoting sustained behaviour change, improving service delivery, and ensuring long-term sanitation outcomes.
A notable initiative, Worship for WASH, was organized at Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh, under the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance led by Swami Chidanand Saraswati. This unique programme highlighted the role of religious leaders in influencing sanitation behaviours and accelerating the elimination of open defecation. Complementing this, district-level workshops in Assam focused on strengthening the capacities of key functionaries to develop and implement communication plans for demand generation, hygiene promotion, and sustaining Open Defecation Free (ODF) outcomes.
Envisions further conducted trainings for mid-level managers across districts such as Puri, Gopalpur, and Sambalpur in Odisha, enabling them to plan and execute WASH programmes with a strong SBCC lens. These trainings supported the development of district communication plans, SBCC monitoring frameworks, and effective implementation strategies. In Jharkhand, specialized SBCC trainings were undertaken under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen to strengthen efforts towards ODF and ODF+ outcomes, supported by the development of tailored training modules.
At the systems level, Envisions provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the development of a communication strategy under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.
Additionally, SBCC training content for Solid and Liquid Waste Management was developed for the Government of Rajasthan, followed by capacity-building of state and district officials for its effective rollout. Strategic initiatives such as the Align for Action Agenda in Bihar and WASH interventions during Kumbh further contributed to large-scale behaviour change and public engagement.
Envisions has also contributed to strengthening the evidence base through research initiatives, including work under the Lohiya Swachh Bihar Abhiyan. Building on this, comprehensive WASH communication strategies and faith-based organization (FBO) engagement frameworks were developed, alongside multiple training batches to support implementation. CSR-supported interventions in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, further extended community-level engagement and capacity-building efforts.
Collectively, these initiatives have contributed to building a robust ecosystem for WASH programming—enhancing institutional capacities, fostering community ownership, and enabling sustained improvements in sanitation and hygiene behaviours.
Women Empowerment
Envisions has been strengthening capacities in the women empowerment sector by integrating Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) approaches to enhance agency, participation, and leadership among women. Through strategic collaborations with government systems and corporate partners, these initiatives focus on building institutional capacity and enabling women to actively engage in development processes.
In Rajasthan, Envisions supported the Saathin programme through a comprehensive capacity-building approach, beginning with a training needs assessment to identify gaps and priorities. Based on these insights, a structured training manual was developed, followed by the organization of Training of Trainers (ToTs) to equip key functionaries with the skills and knowledge required to effectively support and empower women at the grassroots level.
Extending its efforts through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Envisions implemented women empowerment interventions in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, supported by BPCL. These initiatives focused on strengthening community engagement, enhancing awareness, and building capacities of women to improve their socio-economic participation and decision-making.
Collectively, these efforts have contributed to creating an enabling environment for women’s empowerment by strengthening systems, building capacities, and fostering sustainable behaviour change at the community level.
